Chiropractic
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline, which focuses on the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic can help everyone from children to geriatric patients.
Here at Dynamic Balance Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Centre, we embrace the knowledge that chiropractic care isn’t just about making the pain disappear. Chiropractic care is about understanding and learning the cause of pain to improve your overall quality of life. We work diligently to make sure that our services are of the best quality. We focus on educating our patients about the chiropractic care that they are about to receive. We believe in providing natural solutions with every diagnosis, so you can restore and maintain your own personal level of health.
Benefits of Chiropractic Care
Based on the patient’s individual needs, chiropractors use a combination of treatments to help improve the health and mobility of your joints and muscles, both spinal (head, neck, mid-back, low back) and peripheral (shoulder, arm, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, foot). Joint health and mobility are important in maintaining an active, pain free, healthy lifestyle.
- Pain relief
- Immune booster
- Increase flexibility
- Increase joint mobility, function and health
- Assist in a healthier pregnancy
- Lower blood pressure
- Increase energy
- Decreases inflammation
What an adjustment?
An adjustment, or manipulation, is a safe, highly skilled and precise movement usually applied by hand to a joint of the body. Adjustments free up the joint to restore proper movement and optimize function.
Do I Have To Be Adjusted?
Simply put no. Although adjustments are a great treatment method to aid in increasing and maintaining joint health and mobility, it is not the only way to create motion in your joints. Joint mobilizations are a very effective alternative to adjustments. If you are in any way apprehensive about getting adjusted, we will happily utilize the joint mobilizations as part of your treatment.
Many mobilizations are precursors to an adjustment. As your comfort levels increase with the mobilizations, if you would like to modify your treatment to trying adjustments, we will happily ease you into the adjustment and alter your treatment plan.
Chiropractic Treatment Methods
Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT), more commonly known as adjustments, are a large part of therapy, but are not the only therapy used by chiropractors. Other techniques such as Soft Tissue Work, both manual and instrument assisted, as well as joint mobilizations, modalities, stretching and rehabilitative exercise are a large part of treatment as well.

What To Expect From Chiropractic Treatment
The initial assessment lasts about an hour, and includes treatment at the end of the appointment. When patients come in for an initial chiropractic assessment, the chiropractor will first take a thorough health history and ask questions regarding you main area(s) of concern. The chiropractor will then perform a physical examination and various tests to aid in diagnosis and determination of the extent of the main concern(s). A treatment plan is created and treatment goals are set, before the first chiropractic treatment begins.
Subsequent treatments are, on average, around 30 minutes but vary depending on the patient’s treatment plan. The majority of visits will be hands-on work conducted by the chiropractor. Treatment will be based on the treatment plan created at the initial visit, which will include a variety of Soft Tissue Work, Modalities, Joint Mobilizations, Spinal Manipulative Therapy, Stretching, Rehabilitative Exercise, and, most importantly educational information such as postural corrections, positional corrections, and other helpful material to give the patient an active role in improving their main concern(s).
Treatment plans are created specifically for each individual patient, and include the treatment methods that the chiropractor feels the patient will benefit best from. No treatment methods are performed without the patient’s consent, so if for any reason a patient is uncomfortable with a certain treatment method, simply let the chiropractor know and they will happily alter the plan to cater to the request.
